Feed a band-aid, button, or piece of paper through the safety pin before pinning your saree. I used white paper here so that it is easy to see in the video but would recommend using a similar colour to the saree.

One method to achieve beautiful hip pleats is to reach under your front pleats, grab the extra fabric, twist and tuck it into your underskirt. This doesn't just create hip pleats but it also ensures that the saree stays taut between the front pleats and the pallu.
