Traditional Saree Drapes | Halaki Vokkaliga
The Halaki Vokkaliga drape comes from the coastal region of Uttara Kannada and is worn by the Halaki community around Honnavar, Kumta, and Ankola. It is a saree drape that’s practical, breathable, and shaped by daily work.
Products used:
This drape features:
- A saree worn without a blouse or petticoat, wrapped directly around the body
- An upper end pulled across the chest and secured over one shoulder
- Several inner pleats hidden beneath a smooth outer layer for ease and movement
Though less common today, the Halaki drape is still worn at festivals and by older women in the community.
